The Pio Pio Restaurant - Sebastian Marsical

The discovery of a finely crafted wooden box set into an existing building on 10th Ave. immediately defines the initial intentions of this design: mystery, discovery, and contradiction.

The visitor enters this rustic wooden box and is removed from the noisy Manhattan streets. An exquisite marble host-table floats within the space enclosed in reclaimed wood. However, this is only a glimpse of what exists beyond. The limited view increases the tension and desire for exploration.

Cosy Apartment in West Stockholm

Situated in Bromma, west Stockholm, this beautiful cosy apartment of 80 square meters is occupied by a couple with two kids. Every inch of the place has a personal story, starting with the artwork that can be found all over the apartment and ending with a personalized footprint right at the door. The yellow brick villa from the early 1960s shelters the cosy rooms in which the family finds time to come together and enjoy the balanced interiors. The couple kept the old doors and parquet flooring and decided to salvage what they can from the former residence and renovate according to their taste and style. Found on Skonahem, the apartment conveys a feeling of a well maintained and moderately patinated modernism.  Combining vintage elements and modern accents, the residence ended up looking like a very personal space.

Waterdwellings IJburg - Marlies Rohmer

Dutch architecture studio, marlies rhomer has completed 'waterdwellings', a densely populated residential community which floats upon the IJburg between zeeburgereiland and haveneiland in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Consciously structured around a grid of long docks, the dwellings participate in a simple play of continuously varying views. Arbitrary distances separate each unit which change in height and orientation, providing the triangular plot of homes with the perception of a seemingly detached and informal layout.

iPad 2

With an exquisite design and powerful features, the new iPad 2 from Apple steals the market. If you haven’t already seen it, be prepared to be amazed. Its slim look and clean, modern shape makes it the perfect candidate for a home decoration project: wherever you place it, it gives a modernist vibe to the surrounding space. The iPad 2 is an upgraded gadget that is lighter, more independent and has many new features. Incorporating two cameras, one in the front and one in the back, the iPad 2 upgrades the user interaction. With its 10 hour battery time, the gadget is clearly more independent than the previous version. A Smart Cover with built-in magnets protects the screen from external factors and detects when it is removed, so that the iPad 2 can start immediately. Available in 10 colours, the cover also folds in certain places to become a supporting feature for watching movies or playing games.

Matthew Hofmann is a practicing architect in Santa Barbara, CA who recently renovated a 1970s Airstream trailer into a small live/work studio. Usually when you see Airstream trailers that are converted, they are typically made into living spaces. However, what’s impressive is that Hofmann has created a space where he and his girlfriend live and work.
