RUHR.2010 - The Finale

The conclusion to the Ruhr region's successful reign as European Capital of Culture and the advent of a new decade of metropolitan development provide welcome cause or a spectacular programme finale on 18 December: RUHR.2010 revisited.


Main venue: Nordsternpark in Gelsenkirchen.Under the former winding tower, which will - as of this day - be adorned with a new landmark of the Ruhr Metropolis in the form of the Hercules by Markus Lüpertz, RUHR.2010 will once more be offering a reprise under open skies of the events that have marked an extraordinary, moving year.

The Pierre Residence

Nestled between giant boulders and overlooking the San Juan Archipelago, this fascinating looking house comes from Olson Kundig Architects and is also known as the Pierre residence. This project is a beautiful and inspiring example of how to combine natural elements with contemporary building designs. 


The Pierre house was constructed mostly using local materials which is also why it seems to integrate so well in its landscape. The concrete and glass create a nice contrast and together with the rocky formations form one of the most intriguing houses in this style.

Google unveiled its shopping site Boutiques.com on Wednesday morning, after a few days of hype about the venture. On Monday, WWDbroke it down for readers, explaining, "Anyone will be able to create and share their own personalized shop by selecting style preferences and the looks, brands and items they love--in the end making it easier and more stylish to buy fashion on the Web."
