These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. Six-Story Vertical Garden Sprouts in San Vicente

Spain has been bursting forth with lots of green roofs and vertical gardens lately - these instances of urban agriculture must help keep them cool in the hot summer months! The latest project to catch our eye is this beautiful vertical garden located in the town square of San Vicente del Raspeig in the southeast of Spain. Designed by architect Jose Maria Chofre, the six-story vertical garden is installed on the facade of a new children's library, where it creates a spectacular organic contrast to the urban complex and the surrounding angular concrete buildings.

Amazing Concrete House in Madrid by A-cero

The Concrete House II is a family project located in Madrid and stretches over a surface of no less than 1.600 square meters. The first impression when seeing its unusual architecture with gray concrete and vegetation ramps is that you are looking at an bunker entrance. The facade reveals large windows and uncommon shapes. The roof ensures this home’s ecological features as it contains solar tubular collectors, making this residence a sustainable project.

X2 - Koh Samui Resort

Thailand’s X2 (pronounced “cross-to”) resorts are about soul, freedom and simplicity. These credos add up to an earthy philosophy that beautifully continues at X2 Koh Samui, on the Hua Thannon beach on the southeastern coast of Koh Samui island. The newly built resort’s 27 villas rest on a largely undeveloped beach surrounded by old tree growth; the buildings’ sleek, horizontally oriented design seems to meld into nature. With interiors in calm neutral tones that stand in sharp contrast to the Gulf of Thailand’s brilliant turquoise waters, most have their own swimming pools and terrace gardens.
